Happy New Year! ~ A Little Update
Four months have already passed since our simultaneous release of Episodes 3 and 4, and we thought it about time to give a little update to signal the new year. Unfortunately, we have no new release today, but we thought it worthwhile to give some rough plans for the immediate future.
We’re happy to announce that since the last release, the script for Episode 5 has been mostly completed! It’s still in the process of undergoing fixes, but the initial translation is all complete. What is mainly left to be done for 1-5 is video editing, graphic editing, and beta testing, but our team is working tirelessly to get it out to you as soon as possible, so please bear with us. In the meantime, however, as translation works separately to what is left to be done, translators have already started getting their mitts on DGS2 until DGS1-5 is as it needs to be.
Now that we’re in 2019, there are three main things we want to achieve before 2020 rolls around:
- Finish off DGS1, of course.
- Make big progress in DGS2.
- Carry out auditions for the English Dub of DGS.
The first is rather self-explanatory, so let’s just jump into the second point, shall we?
(We’re hard at work, as you can see.)
2018 saw four new translators added to Scarlet Study (including myself), which has already helped with our pace, but DGS2 is a bigger game than DGS1, so it will still take some time. While we can never guarantee what may happen to our members as time goes by, we still would like to aim to get a good little portion of DGS2 out to you before the year ends. We hope you can enjoy it just as much as the first game!
Just so there are no uncertainties, we will be releasing it the same way as DGS1, episode-by-episode rather than a full game release. On top of that, applying the patch will work the same way as for DGS1, so there’s no need to worry about the possibility of a new complicated process.
Now to get a tad bit more in-depth about the voice acting.
First, apologies for the long wait — we know that many of you have already expressed interest in auditioning for a role since it was mentioned in the post back in July (and we’re happy that you are!), but we’ve been so busy with both real life and working on the main game that it’s been difficult to dedicate as much time as we would like to it. Don’t worry, though: we’ll be releasing a separate update when we’re ready for casting, so keep an eye out!
An important thing to note concerning this is that there will be a number of characters who are in both games where the lines to be voiced will no doubt spoil DGS2, especially the main cast. Therefore, if you plan to audition for the role of a main character (or, perhaps quite obviously, just for a DGS2 role), you will have to be okay with DGS2 spoilers. There is always the possibility that something may happen to the person we have casted for a character that appears in both games, and so the voice actor can’t return for DGS2 – having both sets of lines recorded at once guarantees that something like this will not become an issue.
That will be something we address in more detail when we open up for casting, however, so for now, please look forward to the release of Episode 5! We hope to have it out to you all soon!

Thanks for the effort! Looking forward to episode 5
Really looking forward to being able to play the whole game, you guys are heroes!!
So stoked for ep 5. And I’ve heard the 2nd game is better than the first so I’m hyped for it. Thanks guys! And good luck!
Thanks For All Your Efforts And Besides I Knew It Was Going To Be Something Like This, The Final Episode Would Be Released Sometime In 2019 While The Second Game Would Finish Sometime In 2020/21 As It Is Much Longer Then The 1st Game.
Thank you so much for continuing to bring us more DGS goodness! So many translation projects are started and never finished. It really feels like you guys and girls are extremely passionate and deliver on your promises! No matter how long it takes, we fans will always be there waiting patiently until we can get our mitts on the next episode! Thank you for all your hard work!! 🙂
Do guys plan to translate the pre purchase dlc of dgs 2 ?
That DLC is only accessible in the 3DS version. We’re thinking about it and there is definitely interest in doing it. The problem is that unlike the main game, which can be imported as Game Card, the DLC can only be bought on a legit Japanese 3DS.
You guys are amazing! Thank you for all of your hard work – it was fantastically surreal to play through what you currently have of the first game. Super excited for what else is in store!
Thanks for the status update. It’s always good to have a general idea of how things are going behind the scenes of the fan translation. It’s been a great ride so far and I have no doubts that the team will continue to deliver with Episode 5 and DGS 2 and that makes me very excited. I’m glad that the pace has increased but I was pretty surprised when you claimed to want a portion of DGS 2 done by next year. I guess the work with DGS 1 kind of gave you a head start ,however, I must wonder if this would be a demo or the first episode. While the ladder would be cool, realistically it would probably be the former, but who knows.
u can do it guys I BELIEVE IN UUUUUU
Thank you for all of your hard work! It’s greatly appreciated and I can’t thank the entire team enough!
So does this game has full voice acting or just anime cutscenes & ‘objection’, ‘hold it’ etc?
It’s the anime cut scenes, the shouts and DGS2 has some voiced scenes. Also the narrator.
I’m so happy Ace Attorney has such an awesome community that puts in the enormous effort to localize the games that otherwise wouldn’t have been localized. Really waiting for episode 5! Thank you and godspeed!
Great, I really like it! Youre awesome
this amazing ….i been checking this site often for updates so i’m really happy…i can’t wait for u guys to drop episode 5….thanks so much for your effort and i trully wish u the best !!
Hooray! I’ve still haven’t played the first 4 episodes, waiting for everything to wrap up so I can marathon and I already feel itchy. I’ve been checking this site every week for years! Thank you a million times for your determination!
On a side note, anyone has a rought estimate on the time needed to go from a finished script to a beta-tested playable version?
The script is not the only thing that needs to be worked on.
When you release the update including episode 5, will you publish a list detailing some of the changes you made to episodes 1-4 with the update? (For those of us who already played up to 4)
No, sorry. There is no detailed documentation on changes.
This is amazing I’m really happy that you guys are doing this, but is there anywhere I can go to learn how to download these and what exactly I need to do it?
Did you try clicking DOWNLOAD on the top of this page?
Ah duh of course I didn’t see it. Sorry for any inconvenience
I’m checking this website many times a day. The wait is killing me !
I’d be interested in auditioning for a role in the series. I have some pretty extensive voice acting work under the YouTube channel “InfiniteInspiration0”, which has around 2000 subscribers. I’ve created entire audiobooks based on the popular series Bionicle and Exo-Force. Let me know how I can audition. 🙂
Out of curiosity, how is dubbing the cutscenes going to work? Is there some way to remove just the voices, or are you going to have to put all the voices, music and sound effects together manually?
Will there be the option to switch between the dubbed voices and originals?
tbh what I really like about this fan translation is that it is not dubbed. While AAI2 was sort of tied to the main series and basically required a dub, GAA is a bold step into what Ace Attorney should have always been. I personally think a dub will ruin the experience no matter how well it is done, but if people want to put time into it, I can’t argue with that, other than acknowledge that it is not the true way to experience the game.
Yes, we’ve always said the dub will be optional. But the choice will be made during the patching process, not inside the game.
*sees pic 1*
ALL YOU HAD WAS ONE JOB
Any updates on the final patch? 🙂
I’m really looking forward to play the episode of DGS1 !! I’m gonna let my fingers crossed!
Thank you so so much for working very hard on translating these games! <3 Always super thankful for fan translators!! Looking forward to Ep 5!!
just a request, please have the fan dub as an optional, seperated, addon patch.
i do presonally prefer the original voice acting, and would like to have a translation that dosent change it.
This was always the plan and we said so whenever that subject came up. See all blog posts regarding that matter and our FAQs.
